The Bansara Irrigation Scheme is located in Bansara Town, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, approximately 35 km south of Ogoja town and about 0.5 km south of Bansara along the Ogoja–Ikom–Mamfe highway corridor. The project area lies at coordinates 6°30'49.30"N and 8°38'8.80"E and covers an estimated gross command area of approximately 630 hectares with significant potential for future expansion.
The scheme derives its water from the Aya River, a perennial tributary of the Cross River Basin. The proposed irrigation development consists of a river intake structure that abstracts water into a strategically positioned Night Storage Reservoir (NSR) located at a higher elevation within the project area. The reservoir provides operational flexibility by storing water during pumping periods and releasing it on demand to the irrigation network. From the NSR, water will be distributed through a gravity-fed conveyance system to the command area, significantly reducing recurrent energy costs. The State Project Coordinator is MRS.
