The Kware dam and Irrigation Scheme is located in Kware Town, Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, approximately 20 km north of Sokoto metropolis. The scheme is centred around Kware Lake, a naturally occurring freshwater lake connected to the Rima River system.
Originally developed in the 1950s, the scheme was designed to irrigate approximately 1,000 hectares. The reservoir has a storage capacity of approximately 5 million cubic metres, retained by an earth embankment measuring about 6 kilometres in length. Currently, about 450 hectares are operational, while an additional 800 hectares remain available for future expansion.
