Yobe State is an active participant in the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) project, dedicated to enhancing agricultural productivity through sustainable irrigation practices. The state has opted for Model 2, with the state government leading the development and management of irrigation schemes. To meet its agricultural objectives, Yobe State has selected the Nguru Lake Irrigation Scheme for rehabilitation and expansion under the SPIN project.

The Yobe River Irrigation Project is located at coordinates Lat: 11°50'30.00"N and Long: 11°4'30.00"E. The SPIN project in Yobe State is coordinated by the state coordinator, Dr. Musa Adamu. For inquiries, stakeholders can contact the coordinator via email at musa.adamu@yobestate.gov.ng.

Technical readiness and assessment tour: Nguru Lake Irrigation Scheme, Yobe State

The Head of Irrigation and Drainage, Technical Unit of SPIN, Engr. Hauwa Sadiq Mohammed; the Head of Dams Technical Unit, Engr. Amina Imam Binuyo; the Head of Hydropower, Technical Unit of SPIN, Engr. Bem Ayangeaor; the Technical Secretary of SPIN, Engr. Ibrahim Haliru; and the Yobe State SPIN Project Implementation Unit during the technical readiness and assessment tour of the Nguru Lake Irrigation Scheme in Yobe State.

The visit focused on reviewing on-the-ground conditions along the scheme, including main and field channels, as the programme advances structured preparation for rehabilitation and sustainable operation of irrigation infrastructure in the state.
